women who are faster than men...

this is a classic ivan post. topic 1: battle of the sexes. topic 2: girls.

it's about a newspaper article i read today about how some researchers at some prestigious university did a study on how fast men and women run the 100m race. turns out, that if the current trend continues, women may end up running faster than men (at the 100m race) as soon as the year 2064. they also say that it may be as late as 2700. they claimed they did a very simple calcuation based on existing data. it was probably some line fitting statistical technique. anyway, call me crazy, but i think they're crazy. in order for the fastest women in the world to be faster than the fastest man in the world, something evolutionary has to change among men and women. women have to fundamentally generate more muscle mass than men. to think that this'll happen by 2064, during our lifetimes, is completely ridiculous, but even by 2700 it is hard to imagine. evolutionary change as dramatic as this takes tens of thousands of years (even more), not 700 years. who's crazy? me or them?

my second topic is something that i wanted your opinion on. so there's this girl in engineering, i have NO idea what her name is, but i've seen her on and off for the past 4 years around campus. i'm pretty sure she's an engineer cause i almost always see her in engineering buildings. anyway, she's pretty cute, so when she passes by, i casually check her out. recently (like this past week), when we pass each other on campus she smiles. what does this mean? does it mean: "you're a freak, why do you keep checking me out? but i'm too nice to deliberately ignore you." OR "hmm, you're pretty cute, wouldn't be nice to meet someone randomly from campus, maybe i should smile at you and you'll come talk to me." OR "well, i've seen you for the last 4 years, i might as well start acknowledging the fact that i recognize you"

probably choice #3 eh?

wifi everywhere...

i wish..

i can't count the number of times that i've thought about an excellent topic to blog about, but i end up forgetting by the time i end up getting to the computer. this is yet another one of those times. if there was wifi on the subway... that would solve my problem.

for all you non chem-eng classmates of mine, my chemical plant design is to design a wastewater effluent treatment plant for Boeing. the actual plant in mississauga has asked us to design a plant that treats the wastewater they generate from the various processes they use to make airplace wings. interesting stuff. to me anyway.

on a side note, i had my first bio150 lab and in a class full of first years, i feel like uncle ivan more than i feel like classmate ivan. everyone asks me about how tough university is and how they should handle it. ah well, that's okay, the class itself isn't even that boring, i actually find it relatively interesting.

love's a funny thing...

okay, so it's not love exactly, but "liking's a funny thing" doesn't roll off the tounge as well. anyway, on to the point.

when someone that you like screws you over, and you spend hours thinking about what kind of terrible things you'll say when you see her next, isn't it strange that when you actually SEE her months later, you don't actually say any of those bad things, and all you can do is smile vibrantly because you haven't seen her in so long? it's like all that happened so long ago is completely erased, and suddenly, your 8 months of forgetting about her dies into nothing, and all you remember is how sweet, cool, fun and beautiful she is?

Weir School Yay!...

school got off to a rough start this week. i had safety training on tuesday morning at 9am till 5pm and i totally forgot about it. i went to school to work in the lab, and i happened to see my friend Alex in WB. he proceeded to ask me where i was today... and i said what are you talking about? turns out if i didn't see Alex, i would have missed safety training completely and it would have been trouble. the rest of the week was sorta nuts. after the craziness of tuesday, that night, had dinner with Goodie at Duff's. that lasted till almost 12am. and then i stayed up late, partly cause i couldn't sleep (after waking up at noon that day)

wednesday was a full day of plant design lecture, followed group meeting with my Prof. got home at 7:30pm, ate dinner, watched some of the game, head back downtown for Frosh! nite. which btw, was the most poorly organized event of all time. the only thing it had going for it was the nice venue (Lucid at John and Richmond) and the 3000+ people.

thursday and today was just full of class. couple all this with med school apps and i've got one full week on my hands. things are in full swing again, and to be honest, it's not that bad.

Weirsy is leading the Canadian Open after 2 rounds! wee!!! go WEIR go!!!

Canada has been the most dominant team in this world cup tourney by FAR. they better win it all! and i'm gonna be watching cause there won't be hockey for a while.

i know this was a boring post, just a life update, maybe something more controversial and interesting next time! take care everyone.
