well, hopefully you've had a chance to check out the new little collage i've added to the side there. it was a deceptive amount of work doing that... but well worth it in the end. i'll have finished the collages for my job soon, and i'll post those. you guys will get a first look at the collage that will be making its first showing in the Interfaces chemical engineering magazine. exciting eh?
i think the problem with blogs is that you're never completely sure who comes to read it. i don't expect i have a particularly wide audience, but you've gotta keep in mind that anyone you know can possibly come and read what you've written. that causes me to limit what kind of rants i put up for fear of offending someone. there's been a topic i've wanted to talk about for a while, but alas, because i'm a chicken, it has to wait. so i'll talk about something else today.
i've recently taken up promoting the so-called ladder theory and i absolutely love having debates with girls about it. i haven't met girl who agrees with ladder theory and it amazes me the consistency in the objections women have towards ladder theory. i can't say that biological mechanisms is THE determining factor when a male is choosing their mate or vice versa, but i'm gradually becoming convinced it plays a very large role. but it's one of those topics that can never be resolved because i can never prove 100% that men go after women with certain body types and women go after men with status and money (as ladder theory states). but i think it'd be interesting to meet a girl who actually believes that, to a certain extent, they are after money and status in men. i do believe however that women will more openly admit this when marriage becomes more of a serious consideration (ie when they become older), and most early 20 somethings are and will always be non-believers.

whoa. blogger has been updated. i hope i don't run into any problems posting pics and such....
anyway, i woulda have updated yesterday, cept blogger was down updating their site. so i couldn't....
after a conversation i had today, i feel pressure to make my daily random thoughts more interesting.... hopefully this blog is up to your standards cam. i'm planning a host of new pics on the left bar within a week, mebbe that'll spice things up a bit.
first off, bad news, as many of you know, we lost our finals game on wednesday night 5-1 after tying the first game 6-6. the second game was actually quite close, but they scored a couple late ones while we were scrambling to get the tying goals. despite that, it was an excellent season and i can't wait till next year gets going. roller blade hockey has become a staple of my springs.
i went to the CN tower twice in the past few days. on tuesday night, i went to the 360 restaurant for dinner as part of the so-called 'SARS package'. dinner was quite good and of course the view was cool too.... except little did i know, i would get an even better view from the CN tower the next day! so my lab mate, kyla, is doing some research on differences in pollutant concentrations at various heights. she found some hook-ups with the staff at the CN tower and they take her to various hatches throughout the tower to take air samples which she leaves there, then collects a few days later for analysis. enough of that.... the other day, she had to go to the tower, and conveniently, i had to take pictures for a collage about aerosols and pollutant research i'm putting together for prof. evans. so i thought it'd be awesome to go there and take pictures....
not only did i get to go into a special staff elevator, but they took kyla and i all the way to the roof to take pictures. where there are no barriers to get it the way of photos, where you can literally jump off with ease (if you're into that kind of thing, haha). it was SPECTACULAR. an amazing experience seeing toronto from all the way up there. we went on a day with lots of smog (to get more interesting readings for our research and so i can collect pictures that are more related to pollutant research). so you can see the thick smog hanging over toronto. still, simply incredible. as you might imagine, i took a few photos. the first one on the left is actually the wallberg building (the uoft chem-eng building, where i work.... but you know that) all the way from the CN tower. my camera has some pretty solid zoom.

i just finished playing a semi-final hockey game in my league. It was 4-2 for the other team with 2 minutes to go in the game. One of OUR players got a penalty. So we're playing 4-3 for the final two minutes, down 4-2 in the semi-final game. things aren't looking good. out of nowhere, eric scores a goal with about a minute to go and dan scores AGAIN with about 45 seconds to go to tie the game!! we almost scored again with about 5 seconds to go, but alas we head into overtime. 2 minutes into overtime, dan pots ANOTHER goal to win the game for us 5-4 and send us to the FINALS!!
so all you people who said you wouldn't come out to our games unless we made the finals, here's your chance! both will be played at oriole arena, the first game will be this wednesday june 25th at 8pm. the second game will be played thursday june 26th at 10:30pm. the winner will be the team that wins in the combined scores of the two games (i know it's dumb, but that's the way it is). none of you have excuses not to make the second game at 10:30 so i expect to see you all there!
i also went to a wedding all day saturday. it was really amazing. food was fantastic, ambience was great. i got to help out with reception which was pretty cool too. (btw, check post from june 19 for who the wedding was for). however, the most startling thing at the wedding was the amount of people with the title "Dr.". Out of the 250 or so guests, my sister estimates about 100 were medical doctors. that's not including any of the PhDs that may be wandering around too (but there weren't as many of those for sure). that's nearly half the crowd. granted the groom and the bride are both doctors (they met in med school and are both psychiatry residents now), so it helps that their med school classmates are all doctors, but even beyond that there were quite a few. and such is the family and the pressures i live with. hahaha.

i honestly have nothing interesting to say.
my hockey team won our quarter final game 5-3. our semi-finals are this sunday (time TBA). if you have some time, come out and cheer us on!
i have a wedding to go to on saturday. a good family friend is getting married (our parents have known each a long time, and conversely, she's known me my whole life). i'm pretty excited about the wedding.

you might have noticed a quote a put up a couple days ago from the book A Fine Balance by Rohinton Mistry. it is a great book. granted, i'm no literary expert (the last book I read of my own FREE will was Lord of the Rings and that was in grade 9...), I still think this book is worth reading for anyone. it's basically about the story of four people in 1970s India, how their lives are intertwined and the politcal turmoil in the country that brings them together.
why is it so great? for starters, it's an interesting Indian culture lesson. for those ignorant like i am about cultures other than your own, this book really gives you a little insight into Indian culture. it's also a very well written book with fabulous character development and a story that touches the human spirit. there are so many little intricacies that make you attached to the characters. you suffer and laugh with them. you feel as if you've gotten to know the trials and tribulations of all four characters and you come to realize the importance of their relationships. and finally, like so many great novel, it really makes you think about what's important in your own life.

"So are you saying there is no hope?" she interrupted him.
"There is always hope - hope enough to balance our despair. Or we would be lost."

ignorant hockey fans from new jersey. you don't deserve the stanley cup. booing JS Giguere after putting up what was likely the single best performance by a goalie in NHL history. you won the stanley cup!! isn't that enough? why do you need to boo the other guy's accomplishment? geez.
on a side note, i think a big reason why Giguere won is because there was no clear cut MVP on new jersey. the really won it as a team. niedermayer, brodeur, friesen, langdenbrunner were all worthy of being called the MVP of the devils team.
the leafs better win some time soon. or i'll cry.
i'm getting my digital camera back from yvonne soon (finally!), so i'll be able to take some photos and post them up here. it's been a while, i know.

dentists and oral surgeons get paid far too much money. i went to get an 'assessment' today for wisdom teeth removal. it consisted of the dentist looking into my mouth for a grand total of 10 seconds. he went on to say why i should get them removed, the risks, the benefits. it lasted maybe 5 minutes. he then said, that's it, you're done, go schedule an appointment with my secretary. that cost 50 bucks. no joke. if my dad didn't have dental insurance, i would have to pay that out of my own pocket.
the surgery itself costs 200 bucks a tooth, and 270 bucks for anesthetic. that's a total of 870 dollars (i only have 3 wisdom teeth, not 4). the surgeon said it would take him about 15 minutes to perform the surgery another 15 minutes to recover and then i can go home. 870 DOLLARS!!! For 15 minutes of work. Granted, most people don't know how to perform the surgery so it's pretty specialized, it's still almost a grand for 15 minutes. that's just sick.

basketball camera-men are perverted. i have yet to watch an NBA game on tv where the camera-man hasn't focused, from below, some hot girl in the stands jumping up and down while cheering. it's not even subtle. they deliberately pick the hottest girls with the largest breasts and focus.

yesterday, i saw two people sitting beside each other on the subway. one had their head on the others shoulders and the other had their head on top of the other person's head. both were sleeping. some might say 'cuddling'. i have interpreted the relationship between these two people to be ANY of the following (i'm still not sure):
1) a lesbian couple
2) mother and son
3) sister and younger brother
4) two female friends
5) a male friend and a female friend
bizarre indeed.
