i'd like to do a study on the personalities of people who are very close to their family and people who aren't close to their family. in fact, i'm certain that studies like this have already been done and i'm curious to see their findings.

i wonder if i'm actually TOO close to my family. based on what i know of my friends and their families, i know i'm closer to my siblings and my parents than most. the fact that i hang out with my sisters from time to time (ie, i went drinking with my sis and her friend for her bday) boggles some people's minds. they could never imagine a fun social event with their sibling.

i think that family being important to me (and to other people like me) is ultimately very healthy. it gives me something that you can always rely on. perhaps that in the future when i'm forced to move far far away, it will backfire and i'll have a hard time adjusting. but i really don't think that'll happen based on my experiences away from home thus far.

but in the end, this attachment makes me wonder how i'll handle not having them around. i guess the circle of life kind of takes that into account. eventually, parents die, and siblings drift apart with busy lives and seperate families. but as of now, there's nothing quite like family. and i'm thankful to God that mine's so great.

i was having lunch today with some friends from science outreach today. they were all life science majors, otherwise known as 'artsies'. now, i know that engineers often make fun of artsies and how dumb they are, but it's always been in good fun, i never thought they were dumb. i mean, i admit artsy courses can be very hard and challenging.

however today, i spent 20 minutes, trying to convince my friends, that water at one flowrate (say the water is going at 30 litres per second), will travel FASTER (as in higher velocity) through a smaller tube and SLOWER (as in lower velocity) through a larger tube. now, i REALLY REALLY don't think you need to be an engineer for this to make sense, it should make intuitive sense.

think about a water gun, if you apply some pressure to the gun by pressure on the trigger, do you want your nozzle to be tiny small or super large. most people will say you want a super small nozzle, so the water will come out faster and hence go further. is it really THAT hard to comprehend that velocity is faster through a smaller tube for a given flowrate???

this is an open question to artsies and engineers alike. i am truly baffled.

okay, so somewhere in crazy california there's a kid in high school who has decided to start a 'caucasian club'. she figures that since there are asian clubs, black clubs, spanish clubs, why can't there be a white club. just like those other clubs, it is open to people of all races.

now i don't know how to comment on this without actually offending anyone. but i'm going to comment on it anyway.

i'm not a big fan of black/asian/hispanic clubs as it is, but i particularly don't like the idea of a white club. the idea of those other clubs is to celebrate culture, not to say white people don't have culture, but if you're living in north america, you are constantly exposed to so-called 'white culture', and thus there is no need to actually celebrate it. i don't really understand what this caucasian club is suppose to accomplish. ah well, one of those weird things about this world.

i had a very enjoyable family dinner the other day. i find that chinese families go out to eat at restaurants to often just for the sake of eating, and there isn't enough actual interaction, just eating and leaving. but i had dinner with all my sisters and my parents last night and it was actually full of good conversation and plenty of laughter. good stuff.

nieuwendyk's a leaf!! i've always been a huge fan of nieuwendyk, so i'm really glad we got him. he's a clear cut and definite #2 center, who can score and is dominant in the circle. the leaf's have always needed a #2 center who can play behind sundin and now we have one.

now all we need is a half decent defence.

there are few things in this world that really piss me off. who am i kidding? there are lotsa things that really piss me off... but one of them is people who waste food. i was at a chinese restaurant the other day and i saw two fobs walk in, one girl, one guy. they sat down, ordered two bowls of soup, one plate of beef fried rice noodle and another place of fried rice. they ate MAYBE 1/3 of each of the two dishes of noodles and rice, got up, paid, and left.

i was absolutely and utterly disgusted. this was not a cheap restaurant, so not only do they throw around money like it's nothing, but they waste enough food to feed a small family. is it really that hard to pack it, take it home, and use it for lunch tomorrow??

i know it's a bit late, but here's a couple pics from the camping trip:

i'ts been so long since i last updated that i think that it's likely nobody comes here anymore. but alas, if you happen to stumble here during your random surfing from boredeom, you have finally reached a new update.

the last couple weeks have been just as crazy as the rest of my summer, but in a better sorta way than before. i had a very enjoyable camping trip up at Macgregor Point the weekend of august 22nd. i expected the trip to be a lot more partying, aka drinking, but instead it became a relaxing leisurely type trip, which is totally cool with me as well. sitting under the stars on the beach the second night was definately nice, as was rock tossing on at the shore. overall, thumbs up.

i had a few days of golf and going out before having my wisdom teeth removed. although i don't think i was quite wolverine-like simon in my recovery, i did fairly well for myself. i was eating cheesy chilly fries from taco bell and clubing at tonic by the next day and playing golf at rolling hills and eating hamburgers by the day after that. day 3 was a little rough as the swelling increased and consequently the pain, but that quickly got better and by today, day 6, i'm eating pretty much everything. i must admit it's amusing irrigating the holes in my mouth with the syringe, it's border-line enjoyable watching all that food that was trapped in my mouth come spewing out. haha.

well, that's the 2-minute update of my summer for the last 2 weeks. it all comes to an end tomorrow as classes begin. it's been a memorable one and even enjoyable despite all the pressures. the summer will be remembered as even more enjoyable if my MCAT results are good..... i find out just over 1 month from now.
